Hello everyone. I have never done a blog before. A day in my life with social media with work would be emails, and I also use an app called Sintra Ai that learns about my business and I can schedule posts in advance. So far that has been really helpful although I am hesitant right now to schedule more because everyone and their mother calls this time of year for AC work and I worry about adding more. It is just me and my husband that run the business and we both do everything from answering the phone to registering warranties. Which reminds me I really need to do that. I have 3 kids 6, 6 (almost 7!), and 12. I usually get 1 day a week to work from home and take care of office things. We have 2 dogs, 1 cat, and 11 chickens. For my personal life I honestly just go on social media to watch funny videos or read posts about if its going to storm or not. My husbands ex wife is my bff and she just tags me in photos all the time so I really don’t feel the need to ever update mine.
Positives of social media:
– I can almost always find the answers I am looking for.
– It is a good way to just throw a post out there and make sure people remember you are a company that is around.
– Good reviews. Our company is word of mouth only currently, I have tried different things to market an HVAC business and it is actually really hard. Good reviews are so helpful.
Negatives:
– Everyone is a keyboard warrior
– It can be tricky trying to create a post that will be positive all the way around.
– Bad reviews. You can get 1 bad review out of 300 and it can be the thing that changes someones mind about your company. I have learned that so far it is for the best. Our bad review dealt with a situation that was a bio hazard so anyone that thinks “oh gosh they turned that down, I won’t be working with them” that is 100% ok with me.
Digital marketing today has been something that is really interesting to me. I grew up seeing the commercials for things that always seemed so genuine. Now you have to not only worry about the product, but also being scammed online, and you also wonder if the entire thing is a scam. I think that is so interesting because it used to be “well I saw it on etc” and everyone went with it. But now it is almost like you first have to prove you are trustworthy, while also creating something that stands out from the other 500 ads people had seen that day. How do you catch someones attention while they are scrolling past the same 25 ads that day doing the same thing? I have learned so far honesty is #1. People are sick of being taken advantage of, especially in the industry I am in. There are over 30 other HVAC contracters within 15 miles of us. I do not think social media is a waste of time however, it has been a really great way to say “hey we are here”. I think that social media marketing will always be changing, and that is what is most fun about it. Advertising in general has always been something I pay more attention to, and why people choose things they do. I know why I do, but everyone is different.
